DataFast alternative

A DataFast alternative that also watches uptime and errors

BugOtter shows which traffic sources bring paying customers, like DataFast, and also checks that each app is up and catches the errors that stop people from paying. It's one plan for every app you run. If revenue attribution is the only thing you need, DataFast goes deeper on it.

  • $10less a month for 5 sites

  • Pageviewsare all the limit counts, not events

The short version

  • Both link money to traffic

Revenue per source, goals, funnels and Search Console on both. Both read Stripe, Polar and Lemon Squeezy.
  • BugOtter watches the app too

Uptime from three regions, status pages, errors with source maps and deploy checks. DataFast's site doesn't mention them.
  • DataFast goes deeper on attribution

Real-time map, visitor profiles, more payment providers. When to pick DataFast.

What DataFast does well

DataFast is built around one question: which marketing brings money. It answers it well, and it's popular with indie hackers for good reason.

  • Many payment providers. Stripe, Lemon Squeezy, Polar and Shopify natively, and its docs add Paddle, Dodo Payments, WooCommerce and more. You can connect several at once.
  • Visitor detail. Visitor profiles, user identification and a real-time map of who's on the site, with the referrer and whether they're a customer.
  • Agent-ready. An API, a CLI and an MCP server for Cursor, Claude Code and Codex that can query traffic, revenue and funnels.
  • Long retention. Three years of data on Starter, five or more on Growth.
  • AI traffic. Plans include tracking of AI bot requests, with extra packs if you need more.

Where BugOtter is different

The revenue question has a second half

“Which source brings money” is half of it. The other half is “what stopped money from coming in”: a checkout that throws an error in Safari, a site that was down for an hour during your launch, an expired certificate.

DataFast's site doesn't mention uptime or error tracking. BugOtter puts those next to the revenue, for the same apps, from the same script.

BugOtter's What happened feed: a new error, payments, a resolved error, a deploy that looks fine and a docs outage, in one timeline
  1. A new error on /pricing, the page where people pay.
  2. The money in the same timeline: each payment as it lands.
  3. The deploy, checked against the day before: “Looks fine”.
  4. An outage, with the HTTP status that confirmed it.
What happened, last 7 days, in the live demo.
  • Uptime from three regions. An app is only called down when two regions agree, after a retry, so a blip in one data center doesn't wake you. SSL and domain expiry are checked too.
  • Errors with who they hurt. Browser errors come from the same script, with source-mapped stack traces. For each one: how many visits hit it, how many were paying customers, and how many reached checkout and didn't buy.
  • Deploys. Connect Vercel or add a webhook, and each new error says which deploy it started after. A deploy check compares errors, response time and paid conversion before and after.
  • MRR, not only revenue. Subscriptions, churn and failed payments per app, with a monthly waterfall and a simple 30-day projection.

Cookieless by default

BugOtter's script sets no cookies unless you ask for one. The visit id lasts one visit, which is enough to link a same-visit purchase to its source. If your buyers take days to decide, turn on the first-party cookie.

Pricing side by side

The same two cases on both: one site, and five sites with about 50k pageviews a month.

Moving from DataFast

Run both scripts for a week or two, compare the numbers, then switch.

  1. Add the script next to DataFast's

Run both so you can compare numbers. The CLI adds the tag and your keys, or paste it yourself (below).
In your project: npx bugotter init
  2. Connect your payment provider

A restricted read-only Stripe key, a Polar organization token, a Lemon Squeezy API key or a Creem key, on the Revenue page. Map each product to an app once.
  3. Pass the visit id at checkout

Stripe Payment Links are linked on their own. If your checkout passes DataFast's visitor id to your provider, pass BugOtter's too, or instead (below).
  4. Move your goals

Call window.bo?.track("signup") where you track goals today. Outbound links, downloads, form submissions and 404s are counted without code.
  5. Turn on what DataFast didn't do

Uptime starts on its own. Add a Sentry SDK pointed at your BugOtter DSN for server errors, and connect Vercel for deploys. Then remove the DataFast script.
Step 1: in your <head>
<script defer src="https://bugotter.com/bo.js" data-app="YOUR_APP_ID"></script>
Step 3: browser, then server
const visitorId = window.bo?.visitorId?.();
// when creating the Stripe Checkout Session, Polar or Creem checkout:
metadata: { bugotter_visitor_id: visitorId }

Should you switch?

Questions

What's the difference between DataFast and BugOtter?

Both link revenue to the traffic source that brought it. DataFast goes deeper on that one job: real-time map, visitor profiles, more payment providers. BugOtter covers fewer analytics extras, and adds uptime checks from three regions, public status pages, error tracking with source maps and deploy tracking, so one list shows everything that needs you across your apps.

Does BugOtter support the same payment providers as DataFast?

Partly. Both read Stripe, Polar and Lemon Squeezy. DataFast also lists Shopify, Paddle and others; BugOtter also reads Creem. On BugOtter, Lemon Squeezy revenue isn't linked to traffic sources yet, because its API doesn't expose checkout data.

Can I move my DataFast history to BugOtter?

No. BugOtter imports Plausible and Umami exports today, not DataFast. Most people run both scripts side by side for a couple of weeks, then switch.

Does BugOtter count custom events against my plan?

No. The monthly pool counts pageviews only (20k on Starter, 200k on Builder, 1M on Pro), shared by all your apps. Goals and other events don't use it. DataFast's tiers count monthly events.

Does BugOtter use cookies?

Not by default. The visit id lives in session storage for one visit, so there's no cookie banner. You can opt in to a first-party cookie with data-attribution="cookie" for longer journeys. DataFast says its default script uses cookies to recognise returning visitors, with a cookieless option.
