Terms of service

The rules for using BugOtter: the trial, plans, cancelling, refunds and fair use. Written in plain words, so you can actually read them.

Last updated: November 4, 2026

The short version

  • 14 days of everything, no card needed. After that, a paid plan. There is no free plan.

  • Limits are soft: going over for a month never drops your data.

  • Cancel any time and keep access until the period ends. Yearly plans can be refunded within 14 days of paying.

  • BugOtter only reads from your payment provider. It never charges, refunds or emails your customers.

  • Only monitor and scan sites you own or are allowed to check.

The agreement

These terms are the agreement between you and BugOtter when you use bugotter.com, the BugOtter app, its API, CLI and MCP server. By creating an account, you agree to them. If you use BugOtter for a company, you agree for that company and confirm you're allowed to.

How we handle data is in the privacy policy, which is part of these terms.

What BugOtter does

BugOtter watches the apps you add: uptime checks and status pages, cookieless analytics, revenue read from your payment provider, error tracking, deploys, alerts and a digest, and an MCP server so your coding agent can read it all.

We improve BugOtter all the time. Features can change. If we remove something you pay for in a way that matters, we tell you first.

Your account

  • Give a real email address and keep your sign-in safe. You're responsible for what happens in your account.
  • You must be at least 16, and old enough to make a contract where you live.
  • One person, one free trial. Extra accounts made to get more trials may start without one.
  • Agents and API tokens you connect act for you. You choose what they may do, and you can disconnect them at any time.

The free trial

Do you need a card? No. You get 14 days of everything, at Pro limits, without a card. Pick a plan whenever you like; we email you 3 days before the trial ends.

If the trial ends without a plan. Traffic, revenue and errors pause, and uptime keeps running for 7 more days so nothing goes dark overnight. After that, checks pause too. Your history stays, so a plan picks up where you left off.

We may not give a trial to a person who already had one (the same email address), or to a network with many new signups in a short time. That account still works, and starts on the plan picker.

Plans and payment

There is no free plan. After the trial you pick one of these, billed monthly or yearly (a year costs the same as 10 months):

PlanMonthlyYearlyIncludes
Starter$12$1203 apps, 20k pageviews and 5k errors a month, checks every 5 minutes, 6 months of history
Builder$29$29010 apps, 200k pageviews and 50k errors a month, checks every minute, 1 year of history
Pro$59$59030 apps, 1M pageviews and 250k errors a month, checks every minute, 2 years of history

Every module is on every plan. Full details are on the pricing page.

Prices are in US dollars, before tax. VAT or sales tax is added at checkout where it applies. Creem is the merchant of record: it sells the subscription, handles the tax for your country, and your invoice shows it. In setups that use Stripe instead, Stripe processes the payment for us.

Plans renew on their own at the end of each month or year until you cancel. If we change a price, we email you before the new price applies to you, so you can cancel first if you want to.

Soft limits and sleeping apps

Pageviews and errors are shared by all your apps and counted per billing month. Limits are soft. Nothing is dropped that month. We email you at 80% and at 100%, keep counting everything until the month ends, and only then ask you to move up a plan or put a quiet app to sleep.

If the next month goes over the same limit again, new pageviews or errors pause once it reaches the limit, until you move up a plan or a new month starts. If you have more awake apps than your plan allows, the newest ones pause until you move up or one goes to sleep.

Sleeping apps are free on every plan. An app you've put to sleep, usually one that went quiet. The Monday email suggests apps with no visitors, sales or errors in 30 days, with a one-click link. A sleeping app is still checked for uptime and doesn't count toward your plan. Its traffic and errors aren't recorded until you wake it, which is one click too.

Switching, cancelling and refunds

Switching and cancelling. Any time, from Plan and billing. Switching is prorated. If you cancel, everything keeps working until the end of the period you paid for.

Refunds. Monthly plans aren't refunded, but you can cancel any time and keep access until the period ends. Yearly plans can be refunded within 14 days of paying.

Nothing in these terms takes away refund rights the law gives you where you live.

Fair use

Use BugOtter for sites and apps you own or are allowed to monitor. In particular:

  • Only add uptime checks, heartbeats and site checks for sites you own or have permission to test. The free site check is for your own sites, or sites you're allowed to check.
  • Don't use checks to load-test, flood or attack anyone, and don't try to get around rate limits or plan limits.
  • Don't send us data you aren't allowed to collect. Keep card numbers, passwords, health data and other sensitive details out of events, properties and error messages.
  • Don't put illegal, misleading or harmful content on status pages, badges or share links.
  • Don't try to break into BugOtter, other accounts or the systems we use, and don't resell BugOtter without asking us.

If you find a security problem, please tell us at hello@bugotter.com before telling anyone else.

Your data and your visitors

Your data is yours. You give us permission to store and process it only to run BugOtter for you: to show it to you, your agent and the public pages you turn on. We don't sell it.

For data about your visitors and customers, you decide what is collected and we process it for you. You're responsible for telling your visitors about it in your own privacy notice, and for asking consent where your law needs it, for example if you turn on the optional attribution cookie.

You can delete your account and all its data at any time from Settings. If you're on a paid plan, cancel it first.

Read-only access to your payment provider

To show revenue, BugOtter reads from Stripe, Polar, Lemon Squeezy or Creem with a key you give it. Please give a read-only key (a restricted key on Stripe). BugOtter only ever reads with it. It never charges, refunds or emails your customers, and never changes anything in your account there.

Revenue numbers are a copy of what your provider reports, updated on a schedule. Your provider's dashboard stays the record for accounting and taxes. You can disconnect at any time, which deletes the key and the copy.

Availability and alerts

We work hard to keep BugOtter running and checks on time. We check from three regions so one bad network doesn't send a false alarm. Still, we can't promise the service will never be down, or that every alert arrives on time: email, Telegram, Slack, Discord and push all depend on other companies too.

BugOtter helps you notice problems sooner. It isn't a guarantee that your apps stay up, and it doesn't replace your own backups.

Ending the agreement

You can stop at any time by cancelling your plan and deleting your account.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts others at risk, or isn't paid. Where we reasonably can, we tell you first and give you time to fix it or to get your data. If we ever shut BugOtter down, we'll tell you well ahead, so you have time to export your data.

Warranties and liability

BugOtter is provided "as is". As far as the law allows, we make no promises beyond what these terms say.

As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost profits, lost revenue or lost data, and our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before it. Nothing here limits liability that can't be limited by law, such as for fraud or gross negligence.

Changes to these terms

When these terms change, we update the date at the top. For changes that matter to you, we email you before they apply. If you keep using BugOtter after that, the new terms apply. If you don't agree, you can cancel and delete your account.
